History J Bown & Co (Dukinfield) Ltd is a family run business which was founded in the early part of the nineteenth century, primarily to supply riveted steam boilers for the expanding textile trade and associated industries. With the introduction of Electric Arc Welding the company started to design and manufacture welded pressure vessels. To compliment this process the company began producing its own dished and flanged ends.

The dished and flanged end business soon expanded and with the development and exploration of the oil and gas fields both home and abroad the company invested and expanded to meet the requirements for butt welded pipe end caps, of which it now offers probably the most comprehensive range in the world, keeping pace with design, new material and methods of manufacture.
